TROUBLESHOOTING: SCHEDULE STAR ON A NEW COMPUTER
Several Schedule Star users were happy to report to us that they returned
from summer vacation to find a new computer sitting on their desks.
Unfortunately, several users also report finding an empty copy of Schedule
Star, or not finding Schedule Star at all.
For everyone that made a backup before departing for the summer, they were
back up and running in minutes after restoring from the backup, or
reinstalling from the Schedule Star CD then restoring from the backup. Have
you made a backup lately?
We have also spoken with some users that found Schedule Star and their
current data up and running on their new computer...sort of. If Schedule
Star doesn't look quite right or run quite right on your new computer, it
is very likely that whoever installed your new computer copied Schedule
Star from your old machine without reinstalling. Some tell-tale symptoms
include: strange, cryptic characters appearing in empty calendar days on
the main screen; fonts that look too small, too big, or out of proportion;
list windows that overlap or hide buttons on certain screens; and strange
errors when attempting to make backups.
When Schedule Star is installed from the CD, it copies some files such as
fonts and system files needed for making backups into Windows, not just
into the AOA folder. If the AOA folder is copied to a new machine, Schedule
Star will run, but the files installed into Windows from the CD will be
missing, creating the symptoms listed above.
The best fix for this is to perform a quick reinstall. This will install
all the missing files and return your copy of Schedule Star to normal. Make
sure you make a backup BEFORE reinstalling (just to be safe).
We have also handled several calls from users with new or upgraded
computers regarding printing problems, program crashes, or Windows lock-ups
when starting Schedule Star. If you are experiencing any of these more
several problems, your computer probably needs updated hardware drivers and
Schedule Star is probably NOT the cause.
Almost every piece of computer equipment ships with outdated drivers,
requiring a visit to the manufacturer's Internet site to download updated
drivers. If Schedule Star was printing fine with your old printer but not
with your new one, the printer drivers need updating. If your computer is
locking up when Schedule Star is launched or running, your graphics drivers
need updated. If Schedule Star keeps crashing on your new computer and a
reinstall doesn't fix the problem, one of several different drivers may
need updating.
Our tech support team will be happy to help with troubleshooting any of
these more severe symptoms. However, please remember that we CANNOT assist
you in updating drivers or performing any other type of software
installation. You MUST contact your system administrator for further
assistance if Schedule Star is not the cause of these problems.

TOURNAMENTS...FAST & EASY
The Tourney feature in Schedule Star has a multitude of uses, including
Tri-Meets, Quads, "special events," and even real Tournaments.
To use the Tourney feature, start adding a sporting event like you normally
would. Instead of using the pull down to select your opponent, click to put
a check in the box to the left of "Tourney." Now, type the name of the
Tournament. For example, "Christmas Tournament." If it's an away event,
"Christmas Tournament @ Westside." Now, click on participants and add the
participants to the event. This will allow you to track each and every
event, and add the event to the list of opponents events.
Now, when you generate contracts for the athletic events, Schedule Star
will note that it's a Tournament, print the name of the tournament on
reports (with the option of printing a list of participants), and
automatically generate a contract for each and every one of the
participants in the tournament.
If you need to add additional notes to each contract, you can do this on
most state contracts by clicking on "Contract Notes". Add any information
that you choose (for example, Participation fee is $150 per team, or $20
per wrestler for 7 or less), and print the contracts.
When the Tournament is listed on HighSchoolSports.Net, it will list the
name of the tournament (and you will soon have the option to list the names
of the individual opponents).

STATE OF ????
One of the common problems we run into this time of the year is that
Schedule Star was installed with the wrong (or no) state selected.
During installation, Schedule Star will always ask you to select your
state. For states with standardized eligibility forms and contracts, it is
vital that you select your state, as this will install these forms so they
print correctly from Schedule Star.
If the state was not selected, Schedule Star will revert to a "general"
contract set. When you print contracts or eligibility forms, the
information will appear on a generic form instead of your state's form.
In most cases the person that installed Schedule Star (or an upgrade)
either hurried through it without selecting the state, or highlighted the
state in the list instead of clicking to place a check mark in front of it
as per the on-screen instructions.
If Schedule Star was printing the state forms fine then suddenly started
printing general ones, someone either reinstalled the program without
selecting the state, or installed an upgrade without selecting the state.
The best way to cure this problem is:
1. Make a backup of your data on floppies using the BACKUP utility
2. Find the folder where Schedule Star is installed (usually C:\AOA)
3. Delete the file info.dbf
4. Reinstall the program from your CD, MAKING SURE YOU SELECT YOUR STATE
That should take care of it quickly and directly.
