HIGHSCHOOLSPORTS.NET NEWS

HighSchoolSports.Net has grown at a phenomenal rate. Many of you are sending more events in one upload than our "dot.com" competitors have in their entire databases!

To keep up with this explosive growth, our Schedule Star server will receive a hardware upgrade before the end of the year to increase storage capacity and performance.

We have also been testing some changes and improvements to the programming code on the server that accepts and processes your uploaded schedules. This has necessitated some occasional downtime, usually during off-peak hours. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. We ask you to please bear with us as these enhancements and upgrades are perfected.

Our tech support team has received several calls recently in regards to upload passwords. Please note that if you forget or lose your password, we cannot tell you your password. Since you select your own password and that password is encrypted along with all of your scheduling information during upload, there is no way for our team to find out what that password is.

If you forget your password or your password leaves with a departing Athletic Director or other member of the athletic department staff, please call our tech support team. They will talk you through re-registering with HighSchoolSports.Net under a new password.

All Schedule Star and trial version users are entitled to three free months of uploading to HighSchoolSports.Net on a trial basis. We hope you are enjoying the convenience and time-saving features of HighSchoolSports.Net, and we would like to extend your trial period until the end of the year.

If you are currently using Schedule Star or a trial version and have reached or exceeded the three-month trial period, your uploading privileges will be extended to December 31, 2000. You will receive a letter within the next few weeks outlining the details of this trial extension.

THE "KEYBOARD JUMP" SHORTCUT

Schedule Star is equipped to handle an extremely large number of records in its databases. However, once you've entered an extremely large number of students, opponents, official, and coaches, it can become rather cumbersome to scroll down through these long lists in the directories to find an individual.

For example, when adding students to a team in the Athlete Information Center, clicking the ADD button takes you directly to the Student Directory. If you have several hundred students entered here, finding a particular student to add to the team can take a lot of time-consuming scrolling through the list.

Fortunately, Schedule Star has a way around this to save you time. Instead of scrolling, use the "keyboard jump" shortcut. When you're at the Student Directory screen and you want to add John Smith the Boys Varsity Basketball, push "S" on your keyboard. The list will jump to the first student whose last name begins with "S." This makes your downward scroll to John Smith a lot shorter, saving you time and making your search much easier.

The keyboard jumps works with all of the scrolling lists in Schedule Star, including all of the Information Manager directories and the Athlete Information Center.

GAME HELP

Schedule Star provides extensive provisions for assigning, tracking, and contracting officials. However, we are often asked how to handle non-contracted personnel, such as student and faculty volunteers, grounds keeping crew, etc. This is where the Game Help designation comes into play.

Schedule Star handles game help just like officials, with the exception that no contracts are generated for game help.

First, add the names of your game help to the Officials directory. Then assign them as you would officials, making sure you designate them as Game Help by clicking the radio button on the Official's Assignment screen.

Game help appear along with officials on the Officials and Game Help report. This lets you track personnel without printing unnecessary contracts. It's one more way Schedule Star saves you time.
